The Wild Flowers of Early February on Pilot Knob

We saw Star Lilies in two different shades.  The first, had green veins in the white petals.

The second, had white petals with yellow centers.

The Giant Madrone on Pilot Knob

This photo was probably taken in the late nineties.  The tree still looks relatively healthy.

This is the same tree today, February 8, 2009.  I didn’t even know that the tree had died.

To give a perspective on size, I had my grand daughter stand by the tree.

I found out today that Tom, the jovial ranger at the Sky Oaks Ranger Station, died last summer.  It was a sad day up on Pilot Knob.
